Abseil down the tallest permanent abseil tower in the world and raise funds for young people!

The National Lift Tower is a massive 400ft tall and dominates the Northampton skyline. The next abseil will be Saturday 15th July 2017.

How much should I aim to raise?

We ask you to raise a minimum of £200. Once you have raised the first £100, we will book your abseil. Obviously, we would like you to raise as much as possible as every penny raised goes straight to our work with young people. We’ll set up your fundraising page and give you fundraising ideas.

What is the minimum age?

The minimum age is 14. (Under 18s need signed parental consent.) There is no maximum age and the current record is 89 years old.

Are there weight limits?

There is an upper limit of 136kg (21st 5lb). There is no minimum weight.

What happens in bad weather?

Outside abseils are weather-dependent, so in the event of high winds the activity takes place inside the lift shaft.

How fit do I need to be to abseil?

This is an extreme abseil and it is hard work!! You don’t need to be an Olympic athlete, but a reasonable level of fitness will make it a lot easier and more fun.

What are the risks?

There is a small risk that if the wind picks up while you are abseiling you could be blown away from the building and hit it on the way back in, possibly resulting in bruising and other injuries.

Can I bring spectators?

Spectators are welcome to come and support abseilers on the outside.

Who are we jumping with?

We will be using recognised specialists Skyline Parachuting which is used by charities across the UK. See more about them at www.doitforcharity.com

Where will we be jumping from?

Brackley Aerodrome is 15 miles north of Oxford, about 30 minutes drive from Leamington. We can co-ordinate transport if needed.

How much will it cost? How much do we need to raise?

We ask that you raise £450. Once you have raised the first £100 then we will book your place. Obviously we would like you to raise as much as possible as every penny helps WAYC and our work with young people. Last year one young person doing a skydive raised over £1300 for her charity of choice. Could you do better?

When are we jumping?

The next jump will be posted soon.

What training will be required?

As we will be doing a tandem skydive, the training required is minimal and lasts around 30 minutes.

Do I need to be fit in order to jump?

The main physical requirement of jumping is to be able to lift your knees to your chest when landing. If you are over 40 or have a pre-existing medical condition, you will be required to present a doctor’s note on the day.

Can I take insurance?

Whilst every precaution is taken to ensure that the jump is safe and successful, Skyline does give you the opportunity to purchase insurance at a cost of £29.75. This can be purchased at any point between booking and the jump.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We hope that the weather will be good, but this is England! So if the day is cancelled, Skyline will reorganise our jump for no additional charge.
