Includes the essentials of youth work (what it is, why it is and how it works), planning and designing projects and programmes, evaluating and reporting, and child protection.

For volunteers and young leaders wanting to develop skills and awareness of youth work.

ABC Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice

Includes the theory of youth work (purpose and values, skills and knowledge), safeguarding, young people’s development, engaging and communicating with young people.

20 hours taught sessions, with portfolio to be completed. Cost: £437 (mentoring support to complete the portfolio is offered for an additional £120). Accredited through ABC Awards

Essential Child Protection

The essential information needed to safeguard the welfare of children and young people including:

  • Understanding the different types of abuse that children and young people may experience
  • Understanding the signs, symptoms and effects of abuse
  • What to do if you are concerned or told about abuse
  • Keeping yourself safe (safe practice)

For anyone who hasn’t undertaken any child protection training or is looking for a refresher (at least every two years is recommended). An interactive, discussion-based course with information for participants to take away. Participants will receive a certificate of achievement.

3 hours taught sessions. £200 for group of 10.

Safeguarding Extra

Covers: reporting and sharing, why a child or young person might not tell someone they are being harmed, why an adult might not listen to a child telling them they are being harmed, and vulnerable adults or adults at risk.

Recommended for everyone working or volunteering with young people who is in a position of responsibility, eg youth worker, play leader, teacher, teaching assistant, club leader.

3 hours taught sessions. £200 for group of 10.
