Young People First believe in the value of providing a safe space for young people to engage in a 1:1 mentoring with experienced youth workers. The purpose of mentoring is to provide guidance and support to young people as they manage situations such as life transitions, friendship issues, mental health or difficulties at school. Youth workers will form strong, trusting, positive relationships with young people and help them to work through their issues, identify coping strategies and work towards their goals.
We currently deliver in school mentoring at Sydenham, Oakley and Myton school. So if you have a young person who attends one of those schools we may be able to offer support in school (subject to school/parental agreement). If your young person attends another school or is a non-attender we may be able to provide support in the community.
If you are a professional and you are working with a young person who you think would benefit from mentoring support please complete this referral form and provide as much information as possible. This will enable us to ensure that we are prioritising young people with the highest need and will assist us with matching them with a mentor.
If you are a parent/ guardian who has a young person in need of support please email info@youngpeoplefirst.org.uk with your phone number and someone will call you back to discuss what support your child needs.
Please note that there is often high demand for our services so sometimes we will have to hold a waiting list which may mean a delay in your child receiving support. However, we will endeavour to keep you updated on progress.
